She, a Chinese (2009) follows the journey of Mei (Huang Lu), a young woman who has spent her entire life within a five-mile radius of her small Chinese village. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a mix of destiny, curiosity, and a yearning for adventure propels her to Chongqing. Initially, Mei seeks excitement and new experiences in the bustling city, but her dreams are soon shattered when she is fired from her factory job and ends up working in a hair salon. There, she encounters Spikey (Wei Yi Bo), a gangster adorned with a dragon tattoo. Despite knowing his dangerous lifestyle, Mei falls deeply in love with him. Tragedy strikes when Spikey returns to her covered in blood and dies in her arms, forcing Mei to flee the city. Her journey then takes her to London, where she faces the challenges of a new language, unfamiliar cuisine, and a different set of societal norms. Despite these hurdles, Mei finds herself on the cusp of an uncertain but promising future.
