Gold Dust (2017) follows the journey of two lifelong friends and prospectors who venture along the Mexican border, armed with worn-out maps and inherited tales, in pursuit of a legendary ghost ship supposedly entombed in the desert sands for centuries. The desert, now a hotbed for Mexican drug lords who employ children in ultralight aircraft to transport a new kind of treasure—heroin, the modern-day gold dust—presents a treacherous landscape. The friends face a moral dilemma: chase their lifelong dream of uncovering the treasure, now tantalizingly within reach, or stand up for what is right by rescuing a young girl held captive by the drug lord. This gripping tale of adventure and redemption weaves together the harsh, deadly beauty of the desert with a villain whose charm is as dangerous as it is captivating. The narrative is enriched with classical music, opera, rattlesnakes, precious gems, mansions, and gold mines, exploring themes of friendship, despair, hope, death, and love.
