1984 · Movie · 129 min. · United States

Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) begins with a tragic shipwreck in 1886, leaving a pregnant woman and her husband marooned in the untamed African wilderness. The woman gives birth to a son in a makeshift treehouse, but their newfound family is short-lived. A family of apes, drawn to the treehouse, inadvertently causes the deaths of both parents. A compassionate female ape adopts the orphaned infant, raising him as her own. Two decades later, Captain Philippe D'Arnot encounters the now-grown man who believes he is an ape. Clues found in the treehouse lead D'Arnot to suspect that this wild man is the heir to the Earl of Greystoke, prompting him to guide the man back into the world of civilization.
