Le Hérisson (2009) follows the story of Paloma, an intelligent and precocious 11-year-old girl who plans to end her life on her 12th birthday. Living in a luxurious Parisian apartment building, she observes the lives of the adults around her, including Renée, the building's concierge. Renée appears to be a stereotypical, uneducated worker, but Paloma discovers she harbors a secret passion for literature and philosophy. As their unlikely friendship deepens, Paloma begins to see the beauty in life and the hidden complexities of those around her, challenging her initial disillusionment with the world.
