Joe Kidd (1972)

1972 · Movie · 88 min. · United States

Joe Kidd (1972) follows the story of Clint Eastwood as the titular character, who arrives in the early 20th-century New Mexican town of Sinola. Here, Robert Duvall's character, Frank Saxon, is rallying the local Mexican-American community against the unjust seizure of their lands. Eastwood, initially incarcerated after a night of excessive drinking, witnesses Saxon's followers, incensed by the judge's (John Carter) refusal to address their grievances, seize and burn forged land grants from the courthouse. As the rebels attempt to abduct the judge, Eastwood intervenes and saves him. A vigilante group is assembled, and Eastwood is asked to join. Under Duvall's leadership, they seize more Mexican-Americans and threaten to execute five unless Saxon gives himself up. Eastwood begins to question the harsh methods employed by Duvall.
