The Meaning of Life
2016 · Documentary · min. · Portugal
Documentary feature film to be developed over three years, is the next job of director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes ("Joseph and Pilar"), who returns to work with the reality assumptions of classical narrative. Miguel (one character), discovering that you have a disease which can not survive, decides to start a journey aimlessly across five continents in search of the meaning of life, not knowing if this journey will ever end. Simultaneously at different points of the globe, six archetypal characters - a comedian, a politician, a filmmaker, a writer, a musician, and an atheist - help to trace a movie in transit, in which different stories collide and converge on an answer to one question: "What is the meaning of our existence?". You can not ask this question without a broader view and that is where there is a seventh archetype: an astronaut who contemplates the world of space and watching us in our real insignificance. After seven films, the director is a theme centered on death to another worried about what moves us - a vision of men like being lost in search of something bigger. Perhaps Saramago was right and the chaos is simply an order to be deciphered.
