Max (Wesley Snipes) is a commercial director in New York on business. While visiting his friend Charlie (Robert Downey Jr.), a choreographer dying of AIDS, he meets willowy beauty Karen (Nastassja Kinski). This chance meeting leads to a one night stand. When Max returns home to L.A., he realizes how empty and stale his life is. One year later, he and wife Mimi (Ming-Na Wen) return to visit the quickly fading Charlie. They meet Charlie's brother Vernon (Kyle McLachlan) and his wife Karen... A morality play about the ramifications of a sexual fling. Although paid for his original material, Joe Eszterhas didn't take any writing credit after Figgis totally rewrote the script.
