María y la película olvidada
2023 · Documentary · 62 min. · Spain
A few years ago nobody knew her and today it is suspected that she was the first director of sound films in Spain. María Forteza and her film "Mallorca" made history and the time has come to explain it. Who was this pioneer in the early days of sound films? Her grandson, Miguel Ángel, embarks on a personal and creative journey in order to reconstruct his grandmother's life in Mallorca, Barcelona and her exile in Portugal after the Civil War. During his search, he discovers that María Forteza was a zarzuela and cuplé singer, but also entertained with her voice the silent film screenings, which were beginning to proliferate at that time. The world of show business accompanied the cinema until the arrival of sound, and María Forteza was an intimate part of both.
