Porzûs (1997) is set in Italy, 1945, as the war draws to a close and the Iron Curtain begins to descend. In the northeastern region, partisans with varying political beliefs grapple with the future of their newly liberated nation. A communist faction in Friuli is implicated in the killing of a group of non-communist partisans. The film delves into the mystery surrounding the massacre, questioning whether it was sanctioned by the Communist Party, the decision of a ruthless commander, or merely a senseless act of war.
