Alimony (1949) follows the journey of Kitty Traves, a young woman from a small town who ventures to New York City with dreams of quick wealth. Initially working as a 'model,' she soon transitions into a more lucrative but morally questionable role as a divorce co-respondent, staging hotel room setups to facilitate divorces. When her songwriting partner, Dan Barker, faces a creative and financial slump, Kitty encourages him to return to his steadfast fiancée, Linda Waring. Kitty then sets her sights on marrying a wealthy industrialist, with divorce and the subsequent alimony payments being her primary objectives.
