Libeled Lady (1936) follows Warren Haggerty, the dedicated chief editor of the New York Evening Star, who continually postpones his wedding to Gladys due to the newspaper's ongoing challenges. When Connie Allenbury sues for $5 million, accusing the paper of defamation for labeling her a homewrecker, Warren devises a plan. He orchestrates a fake marriage between Gladys and the notorious playboy Bill Chandler, aiming to expose Connie in a compromising situation with a supposedly married man.
