Whirlpool (1935) follows the tumultuous journey of Henry and Jeannie Saint Clair, a newlywed couple whose bliss is abruptly disrupted when Henry suffers a severe injury in a car crash, leaving him paralyzed. Despite his condition, Jeannie's love for Henry remains steadfast, but she finds herself inexorably drawn to a brief romantic entanglement with the charismatic athlete, Robert Vanier. When Henry discovers the affair, he tragically takes his own life. Overwhelmed by guilt and grief, Jeannie is unable to move on and ultimately sends Robert away, forever haunted by the memories of her lost husband.
