The Phantom Lover (1995) is set in 1936 China, where a struggling drama troupe finds itself performing in a theater that was once the stage for the legendary actor Song Danping's final performance before his untimely death. As the troupe takes to the stage, one of the actors, Wei Qing, begins to experience eerie apparitions. These mysterious visions not only threaten to revive the troupe's fortunes but also put Wei Qing on a perilous path that mirrors the tragic fate of Song Danping.
