Paulie (1998) is a heartwarming tale narrated by an exceptionally articulate parrot who shares his journey with a Russian immigrant janitor at a research facility where he is overlooked and underappreciated. The narrative unfolds decades earlier when Paulie is presented as a gift to a young girl with a speech impediment. Over time, Paulie helps the girl overcome her stutter, but her father, believing she confuses reality with fantasy, takes the parrot away. Paulie's adventures continue as he encounters a pawn shop owner, an elderly widow, a Mexican-American troubadour, and an aspiring thief before ultimately ending up at the research institute.
