Basic Training (1985) follows the journey of Melinda, who travels to Washington DC to reunite with her friend Debbie and secure a government job, aiming to contribute positively to the system. She secures a modest administrative role at the Pentagon, only to discover a lackadaisical work environment. Her supervisor appears more focused on romantic advances than on retrieving crucial intelligence about the Russians. Melinda steadfastly rejects his advances and begins to navigate the Pentagon's bureaucracy, cleverly influencing the disorganized male colleagues to advance her policy initiatives. Her strategic maneuvers also play a pivotal role in mitigating the escalating tensions with the Russians.
