Fairy in a Cage (1977) is a grim tale set against the backdrop of World War II, where the ruthless Judge Murayama exploits his military authority to detain and torment innocent individuals. Namiji Kikushima, a beautiful woman, is apprehended on suspicions of aiding an anti-government faction, alongside a local kabuki performer. Trapped and defenseless, they endure a relentless cycle of torment, including rope bondage and physical abuse. Judge Murayama and his sadistic aide Kayo indulge in their twisted desires, but a glimmer of hope emerges with the arrival of Taoka, a new military recruit. Taoka, deeply in love with Namiji, is determined to rescue her, even if it requires betrayal to orchestrate their escape.
