Back Street (1961) follows the story of Rae Smith, an aspiring fashion designer who crosses paths with the charming Marine, Paul Saxon, during his journey home from World War II. Despite an immediate connection, Paul departs without Rae, who later discovers he is married. Driven by ambition, Rae relocates to New York and achieves remarkable success in the fashion industry. Their paths cross again, reigniting their spark, but Paul's marital status remains a barrier. Rae seeks solace in Rome, where she encounters Paul once more, leading to a clandestine affair. As Paul's wife, Liz, refuses to grant a divorce, their relationship continues intermittently. However, when Paul's son uncovers the affair, Rae's carefully constructed world begins to unravel.
