Traffic (1971)

1971 · Movie · 96 min. · France

Traffic (1971) follows the misadventures of the beloved French comedian Jacques Tati as he reprises his iconic role of the clumsy yet endearing M. Hulot. This whimsical yet insightful comedy delves into the complexities of 20th-century automotive culture. Hulot, a designer for a prominent French car company, is under immense pressure to finalize his latest creation—a compact recreational vehicle packed with modern amenities like an electric razor, a foldable couch, and an integrated barbecue grill—for an international auto exhibition in Amsterdam. Despite completing the vehicle just in time for the show, it remains non-functional. Thus, Hulot, accompanied by his mechanic (Tony Knepper) and an American public relations representative (Maria Kimberly), embarks on a chaotic road trip to the Netherlands, transporting the car via truck.
