Shimoni

In this gripping and carefully developed drama from editor–turned–writer-director Angela Wanjiku Wamai, a teacher newly released from prison renegotiates the confines of the physical world while forced to face his nightmare in the flesh.Geoffrey, 35, is released from prison after 7 years. He is whisked away to Shimoni-a sleepy village in rural Kenya. A place he loathes. In Shimoni, he stays in the local Catholic Church compound. Quickly the village starts to morph into a new prison; Geoffrey sleeps in a tiny shack, has to do menial farm work , has little access to his family who want nothing to do with him and has a prison guard in the form of a priest dictating his every move. Also, Geoffrey never leaves the Church compound. He can’t; something beyond its walls terrifies him. He resigns himself to this new internment. Then, one Sunday after Mass, Geoffrey sees a man with a white patch of hair. Petrified, he pees his pants, and in a moment of rage, kills a calf. The monster has found him in his hiding place. The events of that Sunday force him out of internment. He has to get rid of the monster, the man who many years ago, sexually abused him and his brother in this village, and finally be free.
