Monster (2003) presents a grim narrative inspired by the true events surrounding Aileen Wuornos, one of America's earliest female serial killers. Wuornos endured a harsh and abusive upbringing marked by drug addiction in Michigan. By the age of thirteen, she was already involved in prostitution and had become pregnant. Eventually, she relocated to Florida, where she continued her life as a highway prostitute, catering to the needs of truck drivers. The film zeroes in on the nine-month span from 1989 to 1990, during which Wuornos engaged in a lesbian relationship with a woman named Selby. Concurrently, she began murdering her clients to acquire money without resorting to sex, thereby inverting the typical scenario where female highway prostitutes are the victims of serial killers.
