Johns (1996) unfolds on a chilly Christmas Eve along Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, where John (David Arquette), a streetwise male prostitute, finds himself in a dire situation. Born on Christmas Day, John had aspirations of celebrating his birthday in luxury at a high-end hotel, indulging in room service, and feeling like a VIP. To fund this dream, he had taken $300 from Jimmy The Warlock (Terrence DaShon Howard), a notorious drug dealer. However, his plans were thwarted when his lucky sneakers, containing his stash, were stolen. Now, John is back on the streets, determined to earn enough money to secure a hotel room and repay Jimmy. Joining him that night is Donner (Lukas Haas), a young hustler with a crush on John. Donner openly acknowledges his sexuality, while John insists he is straight despite his profession, claiming to have a girlfriend named Mikki (Alanna Ubach), though their relationship is tumultuous. Donner envisions a future for them in Branson, Missouri, where he believes they can secure jobs as lifeguards at Camelot, a theme park. As the night progresses, John and Donner encounter various street characters, including Crazy Eli (Christopher Gartin) and Homeless John (Keith David), and attract a mix of clients, from a closeted businessman (Elliott Gould) to those seeking more dangerous encounters.
