The Whip Hand (1951) follows Matt Corbin, a magazine writer on holiday, who discovers a peculiar phenomenon while fishing in Minnesota: a lake adjacent to an abandoned town with all its fish inexplicably deceased. The locals are tight-lipped about the occurrence, but Matt uncovers that a group of former Nazis, now aligned with communism, have acquired a lodge on an island in the contaminated lake. They have established a clandestine laboratory there. Intrigued by the potential story, Matt decides to delve deeper. His sole confidant is Janet Keller, the sister of the local physician who has become entangled in the sinister activities of the Commie-Nazis. The group, backed by Soviet funds, is engaged in the development of diseases intended for biological warfare against the United States, with Minnesota as the initial target.
