Resurrection (1931) follows the tale of Katusha, a young woman from the countryside who is enticed and subsequently deserted by Prince Nekludov. Years pass, and Nekludov unexpectedly encounters Katusha again, this time as a defendant in a criminal trial. He comes to understand that his past actions have led her down a path of desperation. Driven by a desire for redemption, Nekludov accompanies Katusha to her imprisonment in Siberia, hoping to atone for his mistakes and help her find a way out of her dire situation.
