Fanny (1961) follows the story of Marius, a young man of nearly 19 years, who feels trapped in his life in Marseille. His future seems predetermined by his father, who owns a café, and Marius yearns for the freedom of the sea. On the eve of his departure for a five-year voyage, he encounters Fanny, a childhood friend, who confesses her love for him. This revelation leads Marius to realize his own feelings for her, forcing him to make a crucial decision between an adventurous life at sea and a more settled existence with the woman he loves.
