Cold Rice, Osan and Chan
1965 · Movie · 178 min. · Japan
Nakamura Kinnosuke takes on three separate roles in three short stories by noted author Yamamoto Shugoro. In "Hiyameshi", a youngster becomes aware of the difficulties to realize his dream of leading an independent life and marrying the girl of his dreams because he's not a first-born, which is why he's often referred as "cold rice". In "Osan", Santa travels to Edo in search of his missing wife, whom he had left after she called out another man's name during climax. In "Chan", poverty-stricken brazier-maker Jukichi must find ways to make money for his family, driven to drink as times have changed and people no longer care about quality craftsmanship.
