The Quiet American (2002) follows the story of Alden Pyle, an American aid worker who arrives in Saigon during the autumn of 1952. This period marks the peak of the Vietnamese struggle for independence from French colonial control. Pyle is driven by a strong sense of purpose to assist the Vietnamese people through his economic aid initiatives. Eager to gain insights from someone more seasoned, he forms a bond with Thomas Fowler, a correspondent for The London Times. However, Pyle's life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes infatuated with Fowler's young Vietnamese companion, Phuong, who embodies the allure and mystery of Saigon itself.
