Shintaro Kisaragi is an 18-year-old hikikomori who, as a result of a prank by Ene - a "virtual girl" or computer virus that lives in his computer - spills soda on his computer and must go out into the outside world, after two years of being locked up, to buy a new one. Once he arrives at the mall, carrying Ene on his cell phone, a group of criminals arrives and takes Shintaro and others hostage. There he meets Kano and then the rest of the "Mekakushi Dan", a group of young people who due to various situations each possess different eye abilities. After a discussion of how Momo, Shintaro's younger sister, joined the group, he discovers that Ene has also joined and is then forced to join as well.
