Men Without Women (1930) follows the gripping tale of a U.S. submarine, the S13, navigating the treacherous waters of the China seas. The story centers around Chief Torpedoman Burke, who harbors a secret identity. In reality, he is Quartermaine, the former commander of the British ship Royal Scot, which was tragically sunk by German forces with a high-ranking Field Marshal on board. Quartermaine's fate took a dramatic turn when he unwittingly shared crucial information with his sweetheart, who was covertly working as an informant for the enemy. As the S13 faces its own peril and sinks, Burke steps up to lead the crew when the commander, Ensign Price, is incapacitated. Burke's mission becomes one of survival, as he must keep his comrades alive long enough for rescuers to arrive, all while grappling with the weight of his past.
