Maya (1949) begins as the crew of the cargo ship Saint-Jacques disembarks at a bustling seaport, eager to indulge in the town's nightlife. Among them is Jean, who, while exploring the streets under the cover of darkness, crosses paths with a captivating woman named Bella (Viviane Romance). Mistaking her for his long-lost love, Jean becomes entangled in a web of deception and romance. Meanwhile, a fugitive steward, fleeing from the authorities after a fatal altercation, seeks sanctuary in Bella's humble abode. Jean's intervention prevents the steward's arrest, leading to an unexpected romantic escapade with Bella. For the first time, Bella experiences genuine love, hoping that Jean will provide her with a fresh start and a new life.
