Romance (1930) follows the tale of young Harry, who is deeply in love and wishes to marry an actress, a decision that does not sit well with his family. Harry believes that Bishop Armstrong is unaware of the intricacies of love, prompting Armstrong to share his own past experiences. Armstrong recounts his story with Rita, an opera star performing in New York, whom he met at a party hosted by Cornelius. Armstrong, then a 28-year-old rector, was captivated by Rita and, after six weeks, proposed marriage. However, Armstrong's naivety led him to misunderstand Rita's lifestyle, as she lived in the moment and knew that a future with Armstrong was not feasible.
