The Debt (2007) is set in 1965, focusing on Rachel Brener, one of three Mossad agents tasked with capturing "The Surgeon of Treblinka," a notorious Nazi war criminal who had evaded justice. The official narrative stated that he had committed suicide while in Israeli custody. However, 35 years later, a small article in a European newspaper reveals that the Surgeon is alive and willing to confess his crimes. The three aging former Mossad agents, now in their late 60s, are confronted with this unsettling revelation. The truth emerges that the Surgeon had escaped by injuring one of the agents, Rachel, who was not vigilant enough. This new information forces the trio to revisit their past and confront the consequences of their actions.
