Unashamed (1932) follows the story of Dick, a devoted brother who will go to great lengths to safeguard his sister Jean, much like their father. However, Jean's affection for the unscrupulous Harry Swift, who is after her inheritance, complicates matters. When Harry arranges for Jean to spend the night with him at a hotel, her father refuses to grant permission for their marriage. Harry, in retaliation, threatens to expose Jean's actions. In a fit of rage and desperation, Dick shoots Harry. Jean, unable to forgive her father or brother, decides to testify against Dick, even if it means he faces the death penalty.
