The Capture (1950) follows the harrowing journey of Lin Vanner, who, after sustaining severe injuries, seeks sanctuary in a priest's residence while evading law enforcement. Vanner recounts his ordeal to the priest, revealing that his troubles began while working at a Mexican oil field. There, he apprehended a man suspected of a payroll heist, but the man's subsequent death in police custody left Vanner feeling culpable. This incident led to the dissolution of his engagement and his resignation from his job. Driven by guilt, Vanner visited the deceased man's widow and eventually found employment on her ranch. However, as he confides in the priest, his past transgressions swiftly return to haunt him.
