Accused

A father accused of a horrendous crime; a daughter who may or may not be telling the truth: this dichotomy forms the basis for a compelling unraveling of fact and fiction in director Jacob Thuesen’s tragic drama. Henrik, Nina and Stine are a seemingly happy family – until 14-year-old Stine tells authorities that her father slept with her when she was 11 and 12. Could this apparently decent guy have committed the most unforgivable of betrayals? Or is the original betrayal Stine’s, a spectacularly destructive act of adolescent spite? Thuesen and screenwriter Kim Fupz Aakeson (writer of 2004’s gripping drama In Your Hands) observe how this state of uncertainty infects the very nature of perception and trust. Does the mere fact of accusation forever alter our feelings about a person? The banality of evil beats at the heart of this troubling – and troublingly familiar – tale of a family torn asunder.
