Santa (1932) is a poignant tale set in the tranquil locale of Chimalistac, a small neighborhood south of 1930s Mexico City. The story revolves around Santa (Tovar), a kind-hearted and modest young woman whose life takes a dramatic turn when she is deceived by the haughty soldier Marcelino (Reed). This betrayal leads to her ostracization by her family and community, forcing her to leave Chimalistac. Seeking refuge, Santa ends up in a brothel, where she transforms into a cynical and bitter individual. She is subjected to mistreatment by the bullfighter "Jarameno" (Martinez Casado), while the blind pianist Hipolito (Orellana) harbors a silent, unrequited love for her.
