Based on a story line by acclaimed crime novelist James Ellroy, Oren Moverman’s second film is about a jaded cop, Dave Brown, a Vietnam vet who does “people’s dirty work” using some highly questionable methods. When he is filmed beating up a suspect, he falls into an emotional spiral aggravated by his past mistakes and his attitude to a corruption scandal he is involved in.
