When his childhood sweetheart leaves him for another man, astronomer Sam (Matthew Broderick) rents the flat opposite her apartment, in order to spy on her. The man his lost love Linda (Kelly Preston) has taken up with is Aton (Tcheky Karyo), who has in turn dumped his own fiancée - photographer Maggie (Meg Ryan), who now wants revenge. Maggie teams up with Sam to launch a campaign against Aton and Linda, with hilarious consequences.
