Piravi (The Birth) (1988) follows the story of Raghava Chakyar, an elderly man whose life revolves around his beloved son, Raghu. Raghu, an engineering student in a distant city, is expected to return home for his sister's engagement. However, Raghu fails to arrive, leaving his father in a state of perpetual anticipation. Raghava Chakyar spends his days waiting at the bus stop, hoping for his son's return. When he learns from newspapers that Raghu has been detained by the police for political motives, he journeys to the capital to seek answers. Despite his efforts, the police officials deny any knowledge of Raghu's whereabouts. As the days turn into weeks, Raghava Chakyar's grip on reality begins to falter, and he starts to imagine that his son is still by his side. Meanwhile, Raghu's sister grapples with the harsh truth of her brother's likely fate, struggling to find the strength to reveal it to her father.
