Salome's Last Dance (1988) unfolds on the eve of Guy Fawkes Day in 1892, as Oscar Wilde finds himself at an upscale brothel, where an unexpected performance of his play "Salome" is about to commence. The roles are taken on by prostitutes, Wilde's host, his paramour Bosey, and Lady Alice. The narrative oscillates between the unfolding drama of the play and Wilde's eventful night. Within the play, King Herod implores his adolescent stepdaughter Salome to perform a dance for him, vowing to grant her any wish. Herodias, Salome's mother, voices her disapproval. Salome is deeply affected by John the Baptist's rejection of her advances. The prophet's insistence on celibacy places him in a tense dynamic between the desires of both the older and younger generations. Meanwhile, Wilde engages in flirtatious behavior with a young man, sparking jealousy in Bosey. The evening holds two significant surprises in store.
