The Miracle Woman (1931) follows the story of Florence "Faith" Fallon, portrayed by Barbara Stanwyck, an evangelist who rises to fame through her eloquent speeches, staged miracles, and the cunning strategies of her dubious promoter, Hornsby, played by Sam Hardy. When a blind ex-pilot, John Carson, portrayed by David Manners, hears her on the radio, he believes that Faith might be able to restore his sight. Florence finds herself falling in love with John, but Hornsby becomes concerned that her growing affection for John might jeopardize their profitable deception. Despite Capra's own reservations about the film's sentimentality, it remains a compelling watch. The movie is adapted from the play "Bless You Sister" by John Meehan and Robert Riskin.
