Quiet Please: Murder (1942) follows the story of Jim Fleg (George Sanders), a cunning and self-centered criminal who commits a daring theft of a valuable Shakespeare folio from a public library, resulting in the death of a security guard. Collaborating with his accomplice, Myra Blandy (Gail Patrick), Fleg creates and sells counterfeit copies of the folio to dishonest collectors. Detective Hal McByrne (Richard Denning), known for his tenacity, tracks down several of these forgeries to Myra. Together, Myra and Fleg devise a plan to eliminate McByrne at the original crime scene—the public library. Meanwhile, an agitated buyer of one of the forgeries demands a refund or threatens retribution, leading them to the library as well.
