The Man Who Saves the World (Turkish Star Wars)
1982 · Movie · 91 min. · Turkey
From the middle of the 60’s to the end of the 70’s, Turkey knew a flood of films inspired by heroes of foreign comics. During this era known as "the golden age of Turkish fantastic cinema", the local industry produced films which rival in daring and cleverness with minimal budgets. "The Turkish school" signals itself by an explosive blend of western and oriental cinema cultures. The film presented during the Festival, THE MAN WHO SAVED THE WORLD (Turkish Star Wars), goes back to the 80’s. After twenty years of experience in local adaptations of Hollywood blockbusters, here comes the Turkish version of Star Wars. This film, which mixes images from the Lucas film and scenes shot in Istanbul studios, is one of the most unique sensations one can experiment in cinema. An absolute third-rate film, a dreadful load of trash which one loves from the very first seconds.
