Regeneration (1915) follows the journey of a young boy named Owens, who at the tender age of 10, is left to fend for himself after the loss of his beloved mother. Taken in by the Conways, his next-door neighbors, Owens' life takes a tumultuous turn when Jim Conway's alcoholism forces him back onto the streets. By the age of 17, Owens adopts a survival-of-the-fittest mindset, and by 25, he has ascended to the role of leader within his own gang, where gambling and drinking are the primary pastimes. However, the arrival of Marie in the gangster-infested neighborhood sparks a profound transformation in Owens. Struggling to express his feelings, he seeks solace and enlightenment in Marie's settlement. Yet, the shadows of his former life loom large, threatening to engulf him once more.
