Aag (1994) follows the life of Raju, an orphaned young man living in poverty with his unmarried sister, Laxmi, in India. Both are at an age where marriage is expected. Raju's life takes a turn when he encounters Parul, a captivating fellow student, and Bobby, another classmate. Raju and Parul develop feelings for each other, but Parul's uncle, Jagpal, has already planned her marriage to Police Inspector Suryadev Singh. When Suryadev learns of Parul's reluctance to marry him, he falsely accuses Raju of murder, imprisons him, and subjects him to brutal beatings. In a dramatic turn, Laxmi seizes a gun from a policeman to help Raju escape, aiming to prevent Parul's forced marriage. They arrive just in time to discover that Parul has tragically taken her own life by consuming poison. Overwhelmed with anger, Raju is recaptured by the police and forced to watch Parul's cremation. His ordeal continues as Suryadev sexually assaults Laxmi, leaving her in a mentally unstable state.
