Holy Tongue (2000) follows the misadventures of two struggling individuals, Willy and Antonio, who find themselves in over their heads after a botched robbery at a Catholic church. Willy, a recently unemployed salesman, and Antonio, a down-on-his-luck football player, turn to crime out of desperation. Their plan to steal a donation box goes awry, but Antonio manages to grab a jeweled artifact, which they later discover is a sacred relic containing the tongue of Saint Antonio, the patron saint of the humble and needy. Believing they have struck gold, Antonio attempts to extort the Vatican for a ransom. When the church refuses to pay, the duo resorts to selling some of the rubies from the relic to a group of gypsies. However, the gypsies, who are devout followers of Saint Antonio, are appalled by the theft and expose the story to the media. The situation escalates when a wealthy businessman, Maritan, who attributes his success to Saint Antonio, offers a reward for the safe return of the holy relic.
