Just an End
2022 · Movie · 49 min. · Japan
Ema, who lives in a rural area, receives a returned package that she had sent to her son, who lives in Tokyo. A mysterious balloon said to be releasing harmful substances floats over Tokyo. Ema's university student son, Omi, has disappeared. Unsettling information about the balloon emanates from the TV, and online forums are full of dangerous thoughts and hateful writing about it. Encouraged by Omi's younger sister, Natsuki, who is concerned about her brother, Ema visits Omi's rented apartment in Tokyo wearing sunglasses to protect herself from the balloon. Omi is not home, but his girlfriend, Midori, arrives, and they decide to search for Omi together. However, no clues can be found in his room, and the feeling of frustration grows between the two, who are on different wavelengths. When a broken smartphone is eventually found in a trash can, Midori believes that it may belong to a certain woman with whom Omi is close. The suspicion emerges that Omi may have been drawn into the woman's suicidal ideation, putting him in mortal danger.
