Dog Day Afternoon (1975) is a gripping crime drama inspired by actual events from the early 1970s. The narrative unfolds in Flatbush, Brooklyn, where a desperate bank robber, driven by a personal mission, takes control of the Chase Manhattan Bank. The robber, Sonny, is accompanied by his accomplice, Sal, and their goal is to secure enough funds for Sonny's male lover to undergo a gender affirmation surgery. On a sweltering summer day, the duo enters the First Savings Bank of Brooklyn, only to discover that most of the cash has already been collected for the day. As the situation escalates, Sonny receives a call from Police Captain Moretti, who informs him that the entire police force has surrounded the bank. With limited options, Sonny nervously negotiates with Moretti, demanding safe passage to the airport and a flight out of the country in exchange for the safety of the bank employees.
