Let the River Flow
2023 · Movie · 118 min. · Norway
Norway, 1970s, during the conflict over the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Alta River in Finnmark, northern Norway. The project affected both the local wildlife, especially reindeer and salmon, and the social and economic activity of the Sami community, an ethnic group living in Lapland. The Sami's resistance and protests marked a turning point in the history of their community by bringing their rights as an indigenous people into the media spotlight. One of them is Ester, a young woman who hides her identity to avoid exposure to racism. When Ester suddenly finds herself in the middle of demonstrations against the construction of a large dam in Alta, she begins a personal journey to break out of the shame she has carried for so long.
