L'habit vert (1937) follows the story of Count Hubert de Latour Latour, who is involved in a romantic affair with the Duchess de Maulévrier. One fateful day, the Duke catches Hubert with his wife in a compromising situation. To escape the predicament, Hubert cleverly invents a story, asserting that he was visiting the Duchess to gain her support for his candidacy at the Institut de France, where the Duke himself is the chairman. The Duke believes Hubert's tale, and Hubert is subsequently elected as a member of the French Academy. This twist of events underscores the unpredictable nature of life, where one thing can lead to another in the most unexpected ways.
