Muddy River (1981) follows the story of two young boys who form a deep bond while living near the mouth of a muddy river in Osaka. Their families are involved in distinct yet intertwined businesses: one operates a restaurant, while the other is engaged in prostitution. The narrative takes a significant turn during the Tenjin Festival when Nobou, the son of the restauranteur, misplaces his pocket money. Kiichi, the son of the prostitute, extends an invitation to Nobou to come home with him, revealing the truth about their family's livelihoods.
